What is Behind This Recent Google Update?

Google has been having problems with the popularly of Google+, the mega-company’s new social networking platform. Google Plus, known as G+ for short, lets you share different sets of things with different sets of people that you select. You can arrange your sets into “circles” to make sure you’re sharing your content with the right group of users at the right time. Social networking giants like Facebook and Twitter have a monopoly on the social scene, however, and G+ has remained in the shadows for many Internet users as a result.

Google is attempting to correct this issue by incorporating information from Google+ users into its regular search results. So, if you are searching for dog training information, and you have a G+ friend who shared a great article on the subject recently, that article would appear in your search results along with the results that would normally display. Google is attempting to measure authority and trust for many users across the great expanse of fragmented networks throughout the web.

The company can then use the “high confidence” information they collect to determine what the most relevant content is, and in what order they should present it in their SERPs. This means that if an authoritative G+ member awards a “+1” to an article connected to a profile on Google, the profile of the article’s writer would raise in trust and authority as well, so the content would, in theory, perform in the SERPs more effectively.

Give your visitors a reason to bookmark your site and come back often. If you want to become an authority in your niche, make sure you doing something to differentiate yourself from your competition. You can add value to your curated content in a number of ways.

Add Your Opinion

Even if you find an article that is extremely well presented, you can add value by adding your opinion on the content curation. This allows your audience to hear your true “voice”. It also adds unique content to your site which will help with search engine optimization.

Present a Case Study

The best topics are often the ones that stir up controversy. Brainstorm and research each week to see what is creating the biggest buzz in your niche. Then find articles online that best represent each side of the issue. Then write a case study that presents both sides in an organized way.

Change the Delivery Method

Not everyone likes to get their information in the same way. This is the reason many internet marketers offer several versions of their products. While some people still enjoy reading articles and reports, others prefer watching a video or listening to an audio version. If you have found some great niche articles on a certain topic, why not create a video of the highlights?

Interview an Expert

While doing research for your site, you will find some “hot topics” that everyone is blogging about. Instead of just rehashing the same information, interview an expert on the subject. Last week, we talked a little bit about the difference between content curation and auto-blogging. The idea of curating content has become a hot topic in internet marketing circles. Most agree that search engines reward websites that have fresh, relevant content. Maybe you want to have a curated site, but you just don’t know how to get started.

To become an authority in your niche and get the Google love you want, you need to have a plan for finding free web content. Without a plan, you might end up wasting time aimlessly browsing the web in search of something to post.

Think about the purpose of your site. What is your unique selling proposition (USP)? What sets you apart from the competitors in your niche?

Think about your audience. What type of content would capture their attention? What would keep their interest and keep them coming back for more?

Take some time at the beginning of each week to outline some ideas you would like to cover. You want to find the most recent, quality information about these specific topics. Also, be flexible enough to change your plan if there is breaking news in your niche.

There are many different places to find content to organize and share on your site. Here is a list to get you started.

RSS Feeds- Do you have favorite blogs in your niche that you read every day? Save time by subscribing to their RSS feeds. This allows you to use a RSS reader to scan through the article titles of all your favorite sites at the same time. Look for posts that are relevant to the interests of your site visitors.

Social Media Sites- Determine who the leaders are in your niche. Follow them on Twitter and Facebook to see what new ideas and posts they share. Not only can you find content to curate from niche leaders, you can also build a relationship with them. This can increase your own followers or even lead to guest blogging or JV opportunities.

Google Alerts – To become a real leader in your niche, be one of the first people to blog about breaking news as often as possible. You can do this be monitoring your keywords with Google Alerts. You can set up the Alerts for real-time so that you are notified of new blog posts, news articles, videos, and discussions immediately.

Today Google launched YouTube Analytics. This program gives you detailed information about the views and traffic your videos are receiving. The information provided can help you build the best videos for your needs.

YouTube Analytics gives you valuable information about your videos an easy to read format. The summary section gives you an overview of the data for all of your videos at a glance. You can also click to see detailed information about each video individually.

Demographics – shows you the age, sex, and country location of your viewers.

Playback Locations – gives you the percentage of viewers watching your videos on YouTube, embedded on other sites, or on a mobile device.

Traffic Sources – tell you if the viewers are finding your videos by searching YouTube, seeing them as a YouTube referred video, or from another site.

Audience Retention – this graph line graph starts off with 100% of your viewers at the beginning of your video. You can look along the length of the video to see what percent of people are still watching at any particular point.

Comments – see how many comments all of your videos are receiving over time. You can also track the comments of individual videos so you can join in the conversation.

New domain names have never been registered before. You will be the first one to own the domain. Because there has never been a site on the name, you can start fresh with no fear of the previous history.

Buying an established domain name from GoDaddy Auctions can bring you benefits as well. Some of the domains for sale already have some quality backlinks. You can also search for a name that contains the keywords you are trying to target. GoDaddy Auctions allows you to search by the age of the domain as it seems that Google takes this into consideration. Lastly, you can sort the domains to see if they are already receiving traffic.

Search by Keyword

The first thing you will need to do is sign up and log in at auctions.GoDaddy.com. You will then be able to search the domains by keyword. Once you are in the auction area, change the “most active” selection to “expiring”. You can then type your keyword in the space that says “find your domain”. Some of the domains you will be able to buy immediately. Others require you to place a bid.

Search by Age

The value of aged domains is a topic of debate in the internet marketing world. Many people think that owning a domain with age gives you an advantage in the search engine rankings. It is true that many of the sites in the top results for popular search terms are on older domains. To search GoDaddy for aged domains, simply add an age range in the advanced search area. Once you find a domain you like, you can search archive.org to see if the domain you are watching had a site on it in the past. If so, you can build a site on a similar topic to take advantage of any existing backlinks or bookmark traffic.

Sort by Traffic

Would you like to set up a site that already has traffic coming to it? Once you do a search on GoDaddy auctions, you can sort the results by traffic. If you click the traffic heading once, you will see the domains with the lowest traffic first. Clicking the traffic link again will show you the domains with the most traffic first.

There are many things to consider when choosing a domain name. You may be able to find an exact match domain that has never been registered before. On the other hand, there may be an established domain name that contains a good keyword, has age, and already gets a high volume of traffic. After considering your choices, pick the domain that you think will work the best for your upcoming site.

One of the best tools for keyword research is the free Google Keyword Tools. You can search by keyword, website, or category. There are options which allow you to see broad or exact results. One of the best features is the easy-to-read competition bar which shows you at a glance how difficult it may be to rank well for a particular word. Be sure to sign into your Google account to see more information including keyword CPC and trends.

Traffic Travis

Traffic Travis has five separate modules to help you do keyword research.

1. Keyword Tool: returns 200 keywords for each search term you enter. It also tells you how many daily searches each of those keywords receive.

2. Search Engine Tool: lets you track the position of your site in the search engines for the keywords you choose.

3. PPC Analysis Tool: helps you discover profitable keywords for your PPC campaign by allowing you to see information about the ads that are displaying for your chosen keywords.

4. Page Analysis Tool: gives your web page a “report card grade” for a keyword. It also gives you tips to improve your on-page optimization.

5. SEO Analysis Tool: shows you information about the top 20 sites on Google for each keyword you enter. You will be able to see their pagerank, domain, age, directory inclusion, backlink, and on page optimization of title and description tags.

If you are looking for a powerful keyword tool that is easy-to-use and gives you quick results, you may want to invest in Micro Niche Finder. You can find up to 800 keywords with every search including long-tail keywords. Next to each keyword are the number of global and local searches it receives each month. With the click of a button, MNF will also show you which keywords have exact match domains available.

It is also easy to see how much competition there is for each keyword by looking at the Strength of Competition (SOC) number. Lower numbers show keywords that are easier to rank.

Micro Niche Finder also allows you to save and exports projects. You can do several niche searches and then merge the projects to see thousands of keywords on one report.

Market Samurai

Many internet marketers reply on Market Samurai as their number one keyword research tool. It has a sophisticated rank tracker that allows you to follow your site’s progress in the search engines.

One reason that your comments may get denied is that they do not say anything specifically related to the blog post. Some people who are attempting to get links use a generic statement such as “I really enjoyed this blog post. It was very informative”. This does not relate to the blog post at all. People in charge of approving or denying the comment will probably look at this and decide that it has no relevance to their blog. In order to provide a relevant blog comment you must read the post. After reading, pick out 1-3 statements that you enjoyed and comment on them.

Keep it Short

The main focus of your comment should be the person’s blog. People who think that long blog comments will get them approved are often mistaken. You do not want to overshadow the blog post. If you have chosen to talk about three points, write three short paragraphs.

What’s Your Name?

Many people who are trying to get backlinks through blog comments place a keyword in the name section. People who are internet marketing savvy may delete this type of comment immediately. Site owners want their readers to be able to connect with you as a person and not as a link. Using your name adds a personal touch that will be appreciated.

Linking to your site

Many people make the mistake of automatically linking to their site within the text of their comment. On some blogs, this may be considered spam and get your comment deleted.
